Based on the article "Online Collaborative Writting Using Wikis" by Paul Sze.
In this article the author describe step by step a project that his students develop in order to know how the life in secondary school is. He did it in a school in Hong Kong because there almost all the people have acces to internet. To do that, they used a writing online tool call Wiki.
In the article the author explain that wiki is a website where anyone can edit anything anytime they want. So that, the teacher create 6 groups in class and every group has a diferent aspect that has to describe. The diferent aspects were: Specials rooms and facilitates, the school as one big family, interest clubs/extra-curricular activities, lunch times and recess, the S1 curriculum and adapting to secondary school life.
Each integrant of the groups observed the other students in the diferent areas and then they star to write their draf. Then they checked their drafs and a proofreading in order to know if they have errors and correct them. And finally, they published their wiki.
I think that wiki is a useful tool to practice writing and to develop a collaborating group work environment. Also, I think that is a good activity that keeps students focused on something and it is meaningful too. Because they learn from their classmates and also they can share their knowledges with others. Wiki changes the traditional way of writing and is flexible for everyone. Teachers can easily leave diferent tasks to their students and develop their interest for writing and collaborate with others.

ResponderEliminarYes, in fact, Wiki can help students improve their writting skills. However, when used correctly it can be a very good activity for a class, as an assignment in groups, having them writting about something. They share ideas, they help each other, and if the topic is nice for them, they will even like it and thus, it will make the learning experience much more enjoyable. Wiki just needs to be adpated to lessons and it can be a very efficient tool to help students.
ResponderEliminarHi sandra, I completely agree with you with the fact that wiki changes the traditional idea we have to teach writing, wiki has improved the ways teachers create assignments. Also, they were writing about topics that are easy for them because they have enough information to create a document about what they do in their school days. I think wiki will have success and in the future we will forget about simple paragraphs.
